Travelling for Umrah for the first time? This comprehensive guide explains everything from entering Ihram to Tawaf and Sa'i for Indian pilgrims.
Entering the State of Ihram
Before crossing the Miqat, pilgrims must bathe, wear the Ihram garments, and make the intention (Niyyah) for Umrah. If flying direct from Ahmedabad to Jeddah, you will cross the Miqat in the air, so you must wear Ihram before boarding.
Performing Tawaf
Upon entering Masjid al-Haram, proceed to the Kaaba to perform Tawaf—circling the Kaaba seven times counter-clockwise, starting from the Black Stone.
Sa'i between Safa and Marwah
After Tawaf and praying two Rakaahs, walk seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, honoring the search for water by Hajar (AS).
Halq or Taqsir
The final step is to shave (Halq) or trim (Taqsir) the hair. Men typically shave their heads, while women trim a fingertip's length of hair, concluding the Umrah.
